Title: " Green Man Breath Of Spring "

Comment:: We have been overly blessed with an abundance of rain in the past two weeks (22 inches!!!). Needless to say everything is GREEN!! I decided to make a Green Man because of all the green. The jug is hand-thrown stoneware. the leaves were made by pressing leaves from the old Oak tree out front of the studio into clay slabs then forming the slabs into a face. He is glazed with my Dragon Green Ash glaze. He's blowing gentle Spring breezes that will hopefully blow some rain your way.

The Green Man motif has many variations. Found in many cultures around the world, the Green Man is often related to natural vegetative deities springing up in different cultures throughout the ages. Primarily it is interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, or "renaissance," representing the cycle of growth each spring. Some speculate that the mythology of the Green Man developed independently in the traditions of separate ancient cultures and evolved into the wide variety of examples found throughout history.
