Title:
"The Nemesis"
Ming
The Merciless , Flash Gordon's nemesis, probably cooked this guy up to antagonize
Flash and his girlfriend Dale Arden. Ming was always cooking up robots, death
rays, force fields and other mischief but Flash and Dale always seemed to foil
his plans. I can't tell if this robot looks evil or just crazy with his spikey
back, acorn nut smile and death ray handblown glass eye (looks kinda like my old
Schwinn's headlight). Then there is that monocle.Very
strange indeed. You'll have to figure out just what he's up to I'm stumped.
He
has lots of bolts, rivets and a gauge for an eye.
Comment::
Note:
the only parts on this sculpture that are not clay are the glass eye, glass pilot
light and gauge face. All the rest including nuts, bolts, gauge body, gears etc
are hand sculpted stoneware.
He came out great.
He was
all hand-thrown and sculpted. Then he was glazed with a metallic, grungy, bronze/black
lava glaze that came out especially nice. There are lots of metallic flashed areas.
He was high-fired. Then he was refired with metallic lusters to accentuate the
old space look. The inside is glazed with a lead-free, food safe glaze.
I
spent the last 7 years doing junk sculpture so this guy is kind of a natural extension
of that process except he is made of clay pieces instead of metal.
